Commission a piece of jewellery with your story at its heart
Some pieces of jewellery mean more because of the story behind them. A commission is a chance to create something personal: a celebration of a milestone, a piece you’ve always imagined, or a new lease of life for treasured jewellery that no longer feels like you. Even when we use gold and stones you already own, the value lies in the design, time and craftsmanship involved. It’s an investment in something made especially for you, to wear and love now, and perhaps pass down one day.
Have a look through my work and the stories below to get a feel for my style. If it feels like a good match for what you have in mind, I’d love to hear your ideas. We’ll explore them together and, if the project feels right for us both, I’ll put together a quote. I take on commissions that suit my skills and design style, so if your idea needs a different approach, I’ll be honest with you. Something this personal deserves the right jeweller.
The stories behind the pieces
Every commission starts with a conversation. Here are three very different ideas that became pieces of jewellery with their own meaning, character and story.
A birthday necklace for Valerie
My client wanted to celebrate her sister Valerie’s birthday with a special piece, working within an agreed budget. She had a halo necklace, given to her by her brother some years before, that Valerie had always admired. This became our starting point, with Valerie’s birthstone, peridot, at the heart of the design.
I put together two designs, and one stood out for a particularly personal reason. Cubic zirconia stones marked the cardinal points around the halo, a subtle nod to the family’s yachting history. It brought together a favourite style, a birthstone and a shared family connection in a necklace made especially for Valerie.
Lorna’s ‘You and Me’ necklace
Richard wanted to give his daughter Lorna something personal for her birthday. Lorna’s wish was for a necklace representing her and her son, bringing together their birthstones, emerald and peridot. Richard imagined the stones mirroring one another and meeting in the middle, a way to express the connection between mother and child.
That idea became the heart of her ‘You and Me’ necklace, with each stone holding its own meaning while forming part of a whole. Alongside the finished piece, I packaged the original design artwork for Richard to give to Lorna: a keepsake of the thought behind her gift, showing how it had been created especially for her.
Leanne’s statement labradorite necklace
Leanne had spotted a necklace worn by one of her favourite country music stars and couldn’t stop thinking about it. With her birthday approaching, she asked me to create a piece inspired by it, with its own character. Sometimes, you need to celebrate yourself.
We worked together to find the right stones: a generously sized labradorite and a piece of turquoise that complemented it beautifully. Over a few design revisions, we explored how to bring them together into a necklace that felt just right for Leanne. The finished piece was a joy to make: bold, full of colour and made to be worn with confidence.
