The Cleo Scarab Necklace Workshop

Somewhere in the middle of this day, you will lift a piece of metal out of the polishing machine and it will be an incredible statement scarab beetle necklace. Yours. Made by your hands, with a stone you set, and unlike anything else you have ever made.
This is the workshop I have been building towards. The scarab beetle is my signature Cleo piece, and I have never taught it before. It takes longer than my other workshops because it asks more of you, and it gives more back.
Why the scarab?
The ancient Egyptians saw the scarab as a symbol of transformation, protection and new beginnings, the beetle that rolls the sun across the sky. It felt right for a piece that marks a decision to begin something, to be something.
Why Cleo?
Cleo Jewellery began with Queen Cleopatra, and not because of gold and eyeliner. I was drawn to how she lived: she took up space without apologising for it, and she took on challenges other people stepped back from.
That is the spirit of this workshop. It is not a quick make. It is a proper piece of silversmithing that asks you to slow down, stay with the difficult parts, and finish something you will be proud to wear.
What you will make
A scarab beetle necklace, built element by element in sterling silver and brass, with a cabochon that you set yourself. The mix of metals gives the scarab its warmth and depth, and the stone makes it yours.
You will learn how to saw, texture, set a cabochon stone and solder. I’ve made some elements easier by providing some pre-cut elements to make this suitable for beginners.

You are ready for a challenge and happy to work at it
You would rather spend a longer day doing something properly than a short one doing something quick
It is not for everyone, and that is deliberate. If you want a relaxed first taste of silversmithing, my ring and earring workshops are a lovely place to start.

Time: 10:30 - 16:00 with a lunch break
Location: Cleo Workshop, Odiham, RG29 1FR
Group size: 4 makers, so everyone gets proper time with me
Price: £175 - all tools and materials provided
Experience needed: None but this is suitable for someone used to craft and using their hands
Age: minimum 18
